Some Fractures Treated by Operations

Owing to the teaching of Arbuthnot Lane it is now generally accepted that simple fractures, which cannot be satisfactorily reduced and kept in good position by the ordinary methods, should be operated upon and the bones fixed in position by some form of bone suture. Nobody would suggest that the ordinary uncomplicated fracures should be operated upon, because if they are treated by splinting, early massage, and passive movements, the results are quite satisfactory and there are no risks.
